Today I went back to work, I start pretty early, so my morning walk was pretty early too. I swear I was out before the birds. Still I did see a brush turkey having a dirt bath right on the edge of the track I walk on. He didn't move until I was right next to him, dust flying everywhere.
Saw two pairs of crested pigeons, one was quite a pale grey, the ones here are normally darker. This is an illustration of crested pigeons by John Gould, a famous birder and artist.
Birdwatching is a habit I formed about 12 years ago when a primary school teacher at my kids school organised a mini twitchathon for the children. I was hooked and have been twitching (birdwatching) ever since. It drives my family a bit crazy. So now the kids are a bit older and I have a little more time I have decided to write a daily blog about birdwatching.
I live in a beautiful place just a bit south of Coffs Harbour in New South Wales, Australia, called Sawtell. We are on the coast and there are also a lot of creeks, rivers and rainforests, it is considered subtropical and the weather and beaches are amazing. Check it out Sunny Sawtell
This morning I went for my usual walk, down to Mick's retreat to the Bonville Creek along the creek, up the back of the Sawtell Caravan Park and then along the fairway at the Sawtell Golf Club
This is starting to sound like an advertisement for Sawtell, still it is a beautiful place and there are a lot of birds to see.
This morning at Mick's retreat I saw four brush turkeys in the carpark. They are so used to people they didn't take any notice of me.
